Welcome to the Dennis-Yarmouth Regional Secretary and Assistants Association Web site!

As we start off the 2007-2008 school year the membership of the Dennis Yarmouth Regional Secretaries and Assistants Association is approximately 175 members. Membership is made up of Administrative Assistants, Para-Professionals, Daycare Workers, Lunch Duty Assistants, and Bus Assistants. Education Support Professionals comprise a critical part of the education team and as part of this team; teachers, students and administrators rely on our members to do the important jobs that insure students receive a quality education.

The purpose of this Association is to promote the general welfare of all members, act as a representative body empowered to speak with authority for its members and to engender respect for the professions, and foster unity and understanding within the professions.

It is also the intent of the Association to work with the Dennis Yarmouth School Committee to provide and maintain mutually satisfactory terms and conditions of employment and to prevent as well as adjust misunderstandings or grievances relating to employment.

The Association is very proud to be affiliated with the Massachusetts Teachers Association and the National Education Association.

Dear Members:

For several reasons we have moved our website to an MTA host site.

                                        Our new address is :

dyrsaa.massteacher.org

Please keep the following in mind:

  1.    We are looking for your suggestions to take to the negotiations table.  Please send your suggestions to me, remember to include you name and home phone number so we can contact you.  In addition, in the very near future we will be looking for members to step up and be part of the team that will go through negotiations next year.  We need to get started so we can get our training done and so we can start collecting date.  While being on this committee it will take a great deal of your time but it is worth the experience.  Please refer to our by-laws, which can be found on our websitefor the make up of this very important committee.

 2.  Do you have an suggestions for upcoming meetings?  Please let us know if there is anything we can bring to a meeting.

 3.  Visit our new website often and help us to spread the word that we have moved to a new site.  We will keep the old site up and running for a month or so.

Message from President:

Hi everyone, our local has been selected for full cost reimbursement for two members to attend the Annaual MTA delegate meeting, May 9-10, 2008 at the Hynes Convention Center in Boston.  The Delegates must commit to attend the pre-conference meeting on Cape at the end of April.  If you are interested we must know now.  You will need to complete the application for reimbursement, pay up front and we must send in all required paperwork.
Let me know ASAP if interested.

At the meeting on 3/5, 25 members raised $415.00 for our scholarship and it was voted to grant only the $200.00 scholarship to a members graduating senior but to off a $215.00 scholarship to a member - this may be only a one time deal but it was very generous of those present to come up with this idea.  Look for the application on line aftere 3/20, we may also send out copies to everyone.

The next free days/weeks are going to be diffiuclt for all of us, please stay strong!  Karen Beauchemin, President

To All Members:

I have received a few emails regarding the 2008-2009 school calendar and I just want to make sure you are aware of the 2008-2009 school calendar.  When I saw the draft copy I sent a letter to Carol Woodbury but the response I got wasn't what I hoped for.  Please note November with all the days off four our members, three weeks later is Christmas with more days off without pay for members.

If you are unhappy with this now approved calendar I ask that you write a short note to the School Committee and Carol Woodbury.  They are not thinking about our members, and even after I questioned the calendar and all the days off without pay for our members in November and December they didn't hire my concerns.  For those that work in building with parent/teacher conference days scheduled there is additional time off without pay in November!  As I told Mrs. Woodbury there is a two week pay period in November where many members will only get paid for 4 days!
I don't know if they will change anything but they should hear from those of you and your concerns.  Thanks so much!

Karen Beauchemin, President
